I kinda need everyones help please.
I'm trying to decide what to do with my kitchen and I'm really not sure what to do.
I was thinking about painting my cabinets black but I'm not sure & I'm not sure on what color to do the walls if I do.
I'm not very good at the redecorating thing I'm not very creative so please HELP any ideas or advice will be greatly appreciated.

My house is very small it was my grandparents (my mom's childhood home aww).
When my grandma passed away Court & I were living in a 2 bed 2 bath apt about 3 blocks away.
After Steve died I couldn't afford my house so I had to sell it.
(Women MAKE SURE that you have the death insurance on your home, Steve told me he did & I believed him But he DIDN'T so I lost my home & a lot of other things.
So PLEASE for your own sake make sure & see it with your own eyes).
Anyways maybe I'll tell you all of that story another time.

The family was going to sell the house & I told my mom i was interested in buying it if it was in my price range.
It was & it actually costs me less for a house payment then I was paying for rent & storage.
So I became a proud homeowner again.
The house was just right for Court & I but then I got married & we had 3.
Still enough room for us but then I got pregnant & we got the boy's.
We're a little cramped now but it's livable.
We we're looking to move about 7 or 8 months ago we went out looking at houses & got pre qualified the whole works & then I got layed off.
I decided that I liked being home with the boys & wanted to be a SAHM so we're stuck here for awhile longer.
So PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
Thank you very very much in advance.

Here are some pics of what the kitchen looks like now
notice the attractive chicken border on the top?
(not so much my style).

♡ I have such a hard time painting real wood... If it was just plywood or something no big deal but... :)

I think just paining the parts of the walls that show a color would help a ton and then I'd get rid of wall paper up top. I bet new door knobs and handles would help moderinize it too? Good luck and you'll have to post whatever you end up doing! I love make overs! :)

Jeremy found out I was a BLOG-AHOLIC and introduced me to your site. Way CUTE!!!!

Regarding the cabinets...hmmm. I've noticed with small kids you can see more fingerprints on painted cabinets vs. wood. My suggestion would be to remove all of the doors (after numbering the back sides, so you remember which door goes to which spot), sand them down and perhaps stain them. However that is time consuming. The one thing I would definitely do is buy all new hardware (handles/knobs). In fact, you should get all new hardware first and see how it looks with the existing wood, and then decide if you want to paint/stain.

As far as painting the walls in the kitchen... Yellow/Orange tints tend to invoke appetite - which is great if you are a restaurant, but bad if you're like me and trying to minimize portions. Blue tones are not good in the kitchen because it invokes sleep, and then no one will feel like eating anything you cook. :( My advice would be to go with a more neutral pallete and perhaps use an accent color to pop. I just did my kitchen walls in a sage green and i have red accents everywhere (towels, rugs, utensil holder, etc).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. And sorry this is such a LONG response, lol.

Hey Tina,

White is coming back in...I would paint them white and maybe invest in a few doors with modern glass fronts.

Top that off with new black metal handles and dark granite couter tops...and you're good to go. White would work really well also because it's such a small space...it would really brighten it up.

That's just what I would do :)

You should ask Kristen though...she's good at that.

Just found your site through Emma's blog. I personally just painted my kitchen cabinets white, got new brushed silver hardware, and painted my walls bright orange. I love it! However, I don't have small children to get my white cabinets dirty. If you do decide to paint them, I think black is too dark in a kitchen, but a dark brown looks nice if the walls aren't too dark.

I'm thinking white enamel for the cabinets and a brighter color for the walls? And I agree with lilianril--new hardware for the cabinets is the way to go. You might be overwhelmed pretty quickly with black cabinets--just a thought, though. BTW, I'm pretty new to the blogosphere--pleased to meet ya!! I'm running a giveaway on my blog, so please drop by!

I agree with the white cabinets, but your counter is pretty light so you might want to get a darker countertop. New hardware would make a huge difference too. Our cabinets are white...we used oil based white paint. It took forever to dry, but it doesn't show fingerprints any worse than anything else, I don't think. Good luck!

My vote is leave them lighter. your kitchen isn't very big and you may end up feeling like you live in a cave. Black hardware would give it a updated look and some fun paint on the walls would do the job. I will come help. let me know.
My parents house is smaller I think and we made it. I think it is commendable of you to try and stay home. In some ways I think it is harder to stay home. You are great, and will be blessed for the sacrifice.

I just saw a site where someone painted their cabinets a high gloss black. I thought I would Not like it, but I did - it was a smallish kitchen as well. I wish I could remember the blog, but I'm old. :) Anyway she d9d black cabs with khaki colored walls, I also think buttery yellow walls or red would look awesome with the black cabs. Keep us posted.

I'm the wrong person to ask as I don't know the first thing about remodeling. But I thought the black sounded nice!
